Frequently asked questions
What kinds of problems can you help with?
I work in-person with puppies, adolescent, and adult dogs (with a particular focus on rescue dogs) who are navigating busy city life across North and East London; or online with people and dogs outside these areas. If you’re unsure whether I can help you, please book a discovery call or get in touch. Common dog training challenges I support include:
- Nervous or anxious behaviour
- Confidence-building in busy environments or on public transport
- Settling at home, in the office, or in cafes
- Loose-lead walking
- Recall training and focus outdoors
- Rescue dogs
What if I’ve tried training before, and it hasn’t worked?
Every trainer works differently, and progress often stalls when advice doesn’t fit the dog, the household, or your capacity to make changes.
I work best with people who want to understand why their dog behaves the way they do and are open to adjusting how they manage, train, and live with them. We also look at whether your dog is in the right headspace to learn: stress, fear, or pain can make training impossible until those are addressed first. If you’re unsure whether this approach is right for you, a discovery call is a good place to talk it through.
How do I know if you’re the right trainer for me?
I’m probably not the right trainer for you if you’re looking for quick fixes, punishment-based methods, or for someone to “train the dog for you” without your involvement. My approach is force-free and relationship-focused. I work best with people who are curious about their dog, open to learning, and willing to make practical changes. Progress takes time, and I’ll always prioritise your dog’s wellbeing over compliance.
How quickly will I see results?
It depends on your dog, your goals, and what happens between sessions. Some changes happen quickly; others take time and consistency. What I focus on is giving you clear, practical tools so you know what to do and why you’re doing it, rather than relying on me long-term.
All clients start with Foundations, which includes an in-depth consultation to assess priorities, followed by a second session to build momentum and work on your next goals. From there, we can decide together what additional support would be most helpful. You’re welcome to book a discovery call or get in touch to learn more about working with me.
Where are sessions held, and what areas do you cover?
I provide in-person training across North and East London. My primary areas include Walthamstow (E17), Leyton (E10), Leytonstone (E11), Highams Park (E4) and surrounding areas. Sessions will be in your own home, or in a nearby park where your dog is comfortable.
For training outside of these areas, additional travel costs may apply; get in touch for a quote. I also offer online sessions via Google Meet, which can be a good option if you’re futher afield or if your dog finds new people challenging.
How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?
Most sessions last around around 60 minutes. That gives us enough time to work through key exercises, and make sure you feel confident, while ending on success for your dog. The first session may run a little longer, as it includes a detailed assessment of your dog’s behaviour and environment.
I usually recommend spacing sessions 3-5 weeks’ apart. This gives you time to practise between sessions, which is where the real progress happens. We’ll agree on a rhythm that suits your dog and your life.
Can you train more than one dog at a time?
No. To ensure each dog receives the focused attention they need, I only train one dog at a time. Each dog is unique, with individual needs and learning styles, so working 1:1 allows us to make the most progress in each session. If you have multiple dogs that need training, we can set up separate sessions tailored to each dog’s specific goals and challenges.
Do you work with all dog breeds?
No. I can work with most breeds, except those that fall under Breed Specific Legislation under the Dangerous Dogs Act. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover me for working with dog breeds such as pit bull terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Braziliero, and XL Bully.
What training methods do you use?
I use ethical, evidence-based methods that never intentionally cause fear, harm or discomfort to you or your dog. This approach relies on teaching skills, reducing stress, and building trust. My aim is to create lasting changes that work in real life.
